Presidential Debates - Race Doesn't Matter

Attention: open in a new window. PDFPrintE-mail

News - Politics

I've been watching presidential debates since Bill Clinton versus George H.W. Bush.  In all of them, issues of racial discriminiation, racial profiling, support for affirmative action and English as official language has come up, Puerto Rico status - especially since the culture wars of 1996.

Barack Obama, son of an immigrant, second generation African - a Black man.  It's the first time on the presidential debate stage and all of the major issues affecting the history making demographics were ignored.

Your can read the debate transcripts at any time at the Commission on Presidential Debates.  One of the big dangers in a minority president is that these issues will be brushed under the rug because of one man's success

By the way, if the next President serves two terms, he will finish their term by introducing the 100th year of Puerto Rican citizenship.
